Restaurant Owner Snags El Mirador, Plans New Concept

Lisa Wong, owner of Rosario’s restaurants in San Antonio’s Southtown and north side neighborhoods, acquired San Antonio’s El Mirador restaurant from Chris Hill, who also owns Esquire Tavern. Wong paid approximately $3 million for the 50-year-old restaurant at 722 S. St. Mary’s St., and has plans to shut it down on Nov. 18.

She indicated she is brainstorming “the right concept,” for the space, one that will “satisfy the requirements of the King William Historic District when it comes to any new construction or renovations,” according to the Rivard Report.

Hill owned the restaurant for four years, acquiring it from the Trevino family, which had launched El Mirador in 1967. The eatery had moved several times before ending up in its current location in 1978. The restaurant was once known as a popular meeting place for San Antonio’s business and civic leaders.
