Residents to The Bridge Developers: No, Thank You
Residents on San Antonio’s East Side remain vehemently opposed to a 150-unit apartment complex dubbed The Bridge. The residents, who voiced their complaints at a recent San Antonio City Council meeting, are concerned that the new apartment complex, which is being proposed by local developer Mitch Meyer, will conflict with the historical nature of the neighborhood.
The project would be situated near the Hays Street Bridge, but the project has been contentious from the start. Though some residents suggest the complex would reduce crime on the bridge itself, others suggest the complex shouldn’t even be eligible for development. Furthermore, the property on Cherry Street is the subject of an ongoing lawsuit between the city and Hays Street Bridge Restoration Group. The advocacy organization said the city reneged on a promise to turn the land into a park.
