The Overlook at St. Gabriel's in Brighton, MA

Repurposed Boston Monastery – Now a Multifamily – Earns Preservation Award

The Overlook at St. Gabriel’s in Brighton, MA, has been presented with a Boston Preservation Alliance Preservation Achievement Award. What was once historic monasteries and churches is now a 555-unit residential community that held its grand opening in 2021.

According to the property’s owner, Boston-based Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, every effort was made to restore and preserve architectural detail while providing residents with modern conveniences.

“Historic preservation can provide real opportunities for commercial real estate,” said John Sullivan, EVP of Cabot, Cabot & Forbes. “Being able to breathe new life into a property that has had a previous life and has a story to tell adds value and connection to the local culture and community.”

The Overlook also served as the host location for this year’s Boston Preservation Alliance Awards gala. Since 1988, the alliance has honored people and projects that demonstrate the highest level of commitment to Boston’s historic character.

Inside The Story

About Lisa McDuffie

Lisa McDuffie arrives at ConnectCRE via REALTOR® world, where she served for nearly two decades as communications director for one of the nation’s largest REALTOR® organizations. She supported two membership-elected presidents who were commercial real estate practitioners, and managed the communications initiatives of the organization’s commercial special interest group. When not following the latest commercial real estate news, Lisa is zeroed in on her charismatic off-the-track thoroughbred as she makes the transition from an utterly failed racehorse to a lovely show hunter.
