Report: Texas Ranks Fifth in Potential Storm Surge Damage
Hurricane season is underway. And, CoreLogic recently issued its 2019 Storm Surge Report, with a focus on potential storm-surge damage to single-family homes. Out of the 19 states analyzed, CoreLogic noted that Texas ranks fifth when it comes to at-risk residential from storm surge, both in the single-family and multifamily categories. The report noted that both Texas and Florida tend to have a greater number of at-risk residences, due to the length of their coastlines.
The CoreLogic report indicated that more than 7.3 million homes along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts have the potential for storm-surge damage, with a total estimated RCV of nearly $1.8 trillion. Early forecasts for this year’s hurricane season are mixed; Colorado State University is indicating near average activity, with Tropical Storm Risk suggesting a slightly less-than-average amount of activity. North Carolina State University is forecasting slightly above-average activity.
