Report: Los Angeles has Most Vacant Land of California Cities

For developers looking to build in California’s 4 most populous cities, Los Angeles ranks #1 in developable land with 42,000 acres and an average lot size of 1.25 acres. The new report from CommercialCafe ranks San Diego 2nd with 11,600 acres, followed by San Jose with 11,500 and finally San Francisco with a paltry 473 acres.

According to CommercialCafe, despite the struggling office sector, Los Angeles developers remain focused on adding office inventory with roughly 11 million square feet in the pipeline. The report also singled out Senderos Canyon, a 260-acre plot of land in Bel-Air that recently went up for auction with a $39M starting price.

The survey ranked the top-20 most populous urban centers in the country, and not surprisingly, a couple of sprawling Texas cities topped the list. Dallas has nearly 91,000-acres of vacant land for development followed by Fort Worth with 75,000. Phoenix, San Antonio and Houston round out the top five and Los Angeles is number 6.
