Renters Staying Put, Push Off Buying
The latest research by Freddie Mac shows more renters are optimistic about their financial situations and expect to stay put, even if rents increased. The number of renters working toward homeownership, expecting to buy a home, or move within the next few years is declining.
Today, renters say renting is a good choice for them, expect renting to stay affordable, and favor smaller rental units closer to a city. Nationally, those saying they expect to rent their next home increased to 59% from 55% since September 2016.
Freddie Mac Multifamily’s David Brickman said the latest survey “is consistent with findings from earlier surveys that show a steadily growing number of renters have a positive view of renting.”
