RentCafe Taps McKinney as “Best Place to Rent”

McKinney has claimed the #1 spot in the U.S. this year, outperforming 149 other cities with the kind of balance today’s renters are increasingly seeking: modern apartments, a strong local economy, and overall livability. That’s according to RentCafe.com’s Best Cities for Renters Report in 2025. The rankings are based on an in-depth analysis of 20 key metrics, from affordability and job growth to apartment quality and access to amenities.

McKinney delivers a top-tier renting experience, and its high national rankings across key categories prove it:

#4 in Housing & Cost of Living

  • A remarkable 83% of McKinney rentals are high-end (the second-highest share in the nation), and nearly one-third of apartments were built just within the last five years.
  • The cost of living is 2.5% below the national average, and renters enjoy spacious units averaging 948 square feet.

#9 in Quality of Life

  • Nearly 70% of McKinney’s apartments are in desirable locations, close to shops, services, and amenities.
