Reno-Tahoe Airport Undergoes Major Renovation
If you’ve flown into or out of Reno-Tahoe International Airport lately, the construction is very obvious…and it’s just getting started. The Airport Authority has approved a $500 million plan to build two new concourses, on top of the $32 million ticket lobby renovation currently underway.
The Reno Gazette Journal reports the new concourses are part of the MoreRNO project, a multi-phase initiative that will provide new roadwork and a new consolidated rental car facility in addition to the remodeled passenger areas. The new concourses will bump the number of gates from 23 to 28 and also provide more flexibility with amenities such as shops and restaurants.
Much of the funding for the project will be provided by the bipartisan Infrastructure Law plus a $4.50 passenger surcharge will be fully dedicated to the project as well. There will be a mix of state and private funding, and the airport is also likely to borrow several hundred million to complete the rebuild.
