Related’s Big South Loop Development Plans
Connect Industrial is coming to Chicago, June 28th. Here’s where to get more details and register.
Related Midwest has big plans for a 62-acre site that runs alongside of the Chicago River. The undeveloped parcel at Clark and Roosevelt in downtown is envisioned for development of 10 million square feet of residential, office, hotel and retail space that could cost $5 billion and span two decades.
Related Midwest, an affiliate of New York-based Related Cos., gained control of the property last year and could start work in 2019. While the planning, design and approval process moves forward, the site is being used to stage events and for pop-up food and retail.
Related believes it can bring the project to life via a dynamic mix of uses that embodies the live, work, play development concept. That includes incorporating a 100-foot-wide riverwalk, along with a mix of restaurants and retail, public art installations, cultural events and eventually train stations.
