Related Midwest Unveils Plans for Massive Quantum Computing Campus
Plans for Related Midwest’s development of a sprawling quantum computing research-anchored campus on the former U.S. Steel South Works site reveal the massive scope of the proposed project.
The Chicago developer is looking to build as much as 59.3 million square feet of buildings on the long-fallow land, reported Crain’s. In a zoning application set to be introduced to the City Council, Related Midwest unveiled the scale of its vision for the 440-acre lakefront property at 8080 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
The total master plan is larger than the size of planned campuses at Lincoln Yards, The 78, the United Center and the former Michael Reese Hospital site put together, per the outlet. In July, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, PsiQuantum, CRG, Clayco and Related Midwest announced the new quantum innovation campus at 8080 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, the first phase of a broader 400-acre master plan.
