Related Midwest Proposes Two-Tower MXU on Spire Site
Related Midwest has unveiled its plans for the former Chicago Spire site, introducing a proposal to build two towers at 400 Lake Shore Dr. To be built on the last available site where Lake Michigan meets the Chicago River, the mixed-use development will incorporate residential components along with a hotel.
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s David Childs has designed an 1,100-foot south tower that will include 300 condominiums and a 175-key hotel, and an 850-foot north tower with 550 rental apartments. Curt Bailey, president of Related Midwest, said the Childs-designed towers “are not only beautiful, but buildable. Their positioning on the site will maximize lake, river and city views, while transforming the eastern end of Chicago’s skyline.”
The developer has also committed to building DuSable Park, honoring Chicago’s founding father, Jean Baptiste DuSable, on land set aside 30 years ago by then-Mayor Harold Washington.
