Related, Atria, Welltower JV Buys former KRON HQ, Plans Sr. Living Conversion
Related Companies and Atria Senior Living, in partnership with Welltower, acquired the vacant 260,000-square-foot former home of KRON-TV from Oryx Partners in San Francisco. The San Francisco Planning Commission unanimously approved plans to convert the 13-story building at 1001 Van Ness into one of the city’s first modern senior living communities built in well over a decade.
Related Companies’ Bryan Cho says, “There continues to be a severe shortage of urban senior-housing options throughout the country,” noting they expect to break ground in late 2019 with plans to complete the project by the end of 2021.
The site is just one block from the new Sutter California Pacific Van Ness Medical Center, and along the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line now under construction. Welltower is the long-term capital partner for the JV. Atria, a leading provider of high-quality senior living, will manage the community.
