In a local land use ballot initiative on today’s ballot, Redlands, CA voters will decide the fate of Measure G, placed on the ballot by the city council to determine if higher-density transit-oriented development will be allowed in specifically designated zones.

The city, historically known for its slow growth policies over the past decades, is asking for voter approval to allow for slightly taller building heights and lifting certain density restrictions to support transit-oriented mixed use development within four designated districts near future San Bernardino ARROW commuter rail project stops.

The council has emphasized the measure still requires development in harmony with downtown Redlands’ historic commercial core, the University of Redlands, the ESRI campus, and surrounding neighborhoods.
