Redlands Grapples with Post Measure G Planning
The defeat of Measure G on the Redlands, CA municipal ballot has city leaders looking at the next steps for meeting critical general plan goals and state housing mandates without the planned addition of higher-density, transit-oriented developments in four specific districts near San Bernardino ARROW rail line stops in the city.
The Press Enterprise reports city leaders saw transit-oriented development as key elements of meeting the city’s General Plan goals, getting the empty Redlands Mall (pictured) redeveloped, and to address state requirements that the city approve more housing.
According to a statement from Mayor Paul Foster, city staff will be working on how to move the Transit Villages Specific Plan forward, and at the same time review planning strategies to accommodate new housing mandates and the community’s inevitable growth.
