Record Year: Illinois Reports $308M in Hotel Revenue
Illinois hotels pulled in a record amount of tax revenue for the state during the past 12 months. The positive upswing marked progress in the city’s hospitality sector, which is still recovering from the impact of the pandemic.
Chicago Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that the state collected nearly $308 million in hotel tax revenue during its 2023 fiscal year, which ended on June 30. The figure was up 36% from the 2022 fiscal year and topped the previous record high of $296 million the state pulled in from hotels during its 2019 fiscal year. Additionally, Illinois welcomed 111 million visitors who spent $44 billion in 2022, representing 14 million more travelers spending $12 billion more than the calendar year 2021.
“More tourism means millions of new visitors exploring all the amazing things that our state and city have to offer – supporting small businesses and local economies along the way,” said Governor Pritzker.
