Raytheon Has Big El Segundo R&D Plans

The research and development industry is potentially expanding in El Segundo.

The Raytheon Co. has reportedly been approved to add nearly 2.2 million square feet of space to a development called the South Campus Specific Plan, that focuses on aerospace and defense. The 142-acre Space and Airborne Systems complex, located on El Segundo Blvd., was built by Hughes Aircraft Co. in the 1970s.

The boost from 1.8-million square feet of warehouses and offices more than doubles the approved construction that the largest employer in the area is able to add.  El Segundo’s City Council will give the development a second look early next year.  If approved, the build-out would add greatly to the current Raytheon Co. employee count of 5,500 people in its El Segundo offices.
