Queens Rises to Most Sought-After Rental Location in Northeast

In October, renters showed a strong preference for apartments in Queens, NY, making it the most sought-after location, surpassing Arlington, VA, and Kansas City, MO., according to the monthly Rental Activity Report from RentCafe.

Queens saw a significant 72% year-over-year decrease in available listings, the most substantial decline among 150 U.S. cities. Listing views nearly tripled, and renters added 127% more properties to their favorites while saving 19% more personalized searches year-over-year.

The Bronx also remained a popular rental destination, ranking sixth in October. Despite being NYC’s most affordable borough, it stayed among the top 10 locations for rental activity. Increased rental demand led to a 20% drop in available apartments compared to the previous October, with Bronx listings drawing twice the traffic. Renters saved 17% more searches than one year ago, contributing to the high ranking for this location.
