Publix buys lot housing one of its markets in Durham

Publix Spends $25M on Durham Shopping Center Lot

Publix purchased land in a Durham shopping center for more than $25 million. The grocery chain purchased two lots at the Marketplace at Ellis Crossing, including the lot that holds a newly opened Publix grocery store. An LLC affiliated with Publix purchased 16.41 acres for $26.1 million.

One of the lots includes the new Publix grocery store and surrounding out-parcels and land. The Charlotte Business Journal reports the store opened in March. It is the 10th location in the Triangle area for Publix and the first to open in Durham.

The Marketplace at Ellis Crossing is a mixed-use development by Thompson Thrift. It is located off Ellis Road east of Interstate 885. The Marketplace at Ellis Crossing spans 30 acres.

The new Publix measures 46,791 square feet and employs approximately 130 associates.
