Publix Pays $71.9M for West Kendall Shopping Center

Publix Super Markets acquired Hammocks Town Center, a West Kendall shopping center where it was already the anchor tenant, for $71.93 million. The South Florida Business Journal reports Publix has been active in buying Florida shopping centers where it is a tenant for years, allowing Publix to have more control over the tenant mix and capital improvements of these retail plazas.

In addition to Publix, tenants include the West Kendall Regional Library, CVS, Dollar Tree, YouFit, and Subway. The deal did not include an outparcel bank and restaurant buildings or the Kendall Ice Arena.

Regency Centers sold the 207,470-square-foot retail plaza at 10201 Hammocks Blvd. to Publix. The price equated to $347 per square foot. The shopping center, which was built in 1987, last traded for $18 million in 1999.
