Publix Buys Five C. Florida Retail Centers
Publix Super Markets purchased five central Florida shopping centers it anchors for $130.4 million. It bought a sixth in Newnan, Georgia, as part of the portfolio.
The locations include Orlando, Lake Mary, Windermere, Fort Myers and St. Cloud. Maury L. Carter & Associates built the shopping centers.
The transaction, totaling 411,980 square feet, was co-brokered with CBRE. Both firms represented the seller, listed as Maury L. Carter Management Corporation.
Publix oftens buys out the developer of the property it anchors to ensure control over the site. The company recently bought the Polo Club Shops in Boca Raton, a 134,000-square-foot Publix-anchored shopping center for $83 million. Jamestown Properties was the seller. Publix recently acquired retail properties in the West Kendall area of Miami, and two Davie retail centers where it had a presence.
