Two medical centers in Orange County are the first local health facilities reportedly offering drive-thru swabbing for COVID-19. The two sites opened outdoor stations on Monday to swab the nose or throat of people seeking to be tested for the infection. Both facilities running the drive-thru testing are part of the Providence health system, but a spokesman for Providence would not confirm the locations.

According to comments to the Orange County Register, Providence spokesman James Chisum said the hospital system, which includes 12 locations in Southern California, is rolling out the drive-thru centers at “strategic locations” throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties. But, he declined to disclose the locations. Two locations were posted on at least one social media site, leading to long lines and  crowds.

It was not clear after Monday’s introduction, how many other drive-thru testing sites would begin operating in Orange County, or when. Efforts are visibly ramping up, though.
