Prosper Welcomes New Costco
DFW community Prosper is on the move. The town’s population increased by 46,600 residents from July 2023 to July 2024, the fourth fastest increase in the country. When it comes to rooftops, few companies chase them like Costco.
Construction at the northeast corner of FM 1385 and University Drive began last March and the store recently opened. The project is estimated to cost $17.5 million. The new warehouse will employ 230 people.
The retailer now plans to open a new store in Allen this summer and another at The Village at Ownsby Farm in Celina in early 2026. Costco is also planning a location in Forney. Currently, Costco operates more than 40 stores in Texas, including 15 in DFW.
The Dallas Business Journal reports the DFW metro area is a strong retail market. In 2024, retail occupancy was 95.1%, just below the record high of 95.2% in 2023.
