Proposed West Loop Tower Heads for Approvals

Vista Property Group is seeking approval for a new office building at 609 W. Randolph St. in the West Loop, Crain’s Chicago Business reported. The project would entail a new 15-story office tower rise next to and incorporate an existing structure at 601 W. Randolph St.

Rising to four stories, the existing loft building at 601 W. Randolph dates from the 1890s. The design for the new, contemporary structure will mimic the neighborhood style with a brick and blackened glass façade.

Ald. Brendan Reilly said the building design “has been revised to fit within the overall neighborhood context and to preserve the existing building at 601 W. Randolph.”

Because the project is seeking a floor area ratio bonus, the developers will allocate more than $1 million to the city’s Neighborhood Opportunity Fund, Citywide Adopt-a-Landmark Fund and Local Impact Fund. The planned development now undergoes the public approval process.
