Proposed Project Encounters Land Dispute

Connecticut-based First Hartford Realty Corp. is in negotiations with El Paso city officials regarding incentives on developing a mixed-use community near Blackie Chesher Park. The project, however, faces resistance from tribal community Tigua.

The 30-acre site is part of more than 100 acres at Zaragoza Road and I-10 that the Tiguas believe belong to the Tribe through a centuries-old land grant. The Tribe has filed a federal lawsuit to receive ownership confirmation.

The proposed project would include retail, dining options and other venues.
