Proposed $31M Facility Threatens March Air Reserve Base
Compton-based WesCoast Textile’s proposed $31-million, 185,500-square-foot manufacturing facility in Perris poses a threat to March Air Reserve Base. The commander of the base says “encroachment” by development makes the base more vulnerable to cutbacks or closure by the military.
WesCoast, a manufacturer of fabric for the clothing industry, seeks to relocate to a new site to retain operations in the U.S. Perris officials hope to bring a company to the city that will create 175 new jobs, with 70 to 80 percent of them locally hired.
The majority of the proposed new facility is within one of three designated danger zones for March’s runways. That could lead to flight operations seeming less safe, and could “render any military installation ineffective.”
