Prize for 675K-SF at the Navy Yard
Dock 72 — a giant, new commercial development at the Brooklyn Navy Yard — earned one of 11 Annual Awards for Excellence in Design from the City’s Design Commission.
“Dock 72 will redefine the modern office environment in Brooklyn and transform how people do business,” said Samantha Rudin, senior vice president of Rudin Development, which partnered with WeWork and Boston Properties to start construction in May 2016. By mid-2018, the building should be open for business.
V-shaped structural columns lift the 675,000-square-foot, ship-like structure above the floodplain. “The typical rectangular office massing was transformed and sculpted, stepping down toward Wallabout Bay, creating terraces,” said Navid Maqami, co-founding principal of S9 Architecture.
A lot is happening at the Navy Yard.
– A Wegman’s grocery story is coming to Admiral’s Row.
– Foodie institution Russ & Daughter’s will anchor a food hall in Building 77.
– Amsterdam, Europe’s largest business incubator, signed a long-term, 100,000 square-foot lease at Building 127 and
– Brooklyn-based chocolate maker Mast Brothers Chocolate leased 65,000 square feet at the Yard’s Green Manufacturing Center
