Private School to be Part of Mixed-Use Development
Saint Nicholas School, one of Houston’s oldest private elementary schools, will begin construction on a 38,000-square-foot campus near the Texas Medical Center. The 25-acre tract on which the private school will be developed is part of a 46.8-acre plot that will host commercial and residential buildings.
The eventual goal of the development at South Main and Jethro Streets is to offer a community with single-family homes on five acres, along with eight acres of commercial space, multifamily development and detention ponds. According to Saint Nicholas headmaster Margo Heard, the community will be connected with small golf cart trails. “It’s a village concept,” she told the Houston Business Journal.
Work will begin in July 2018, with the new school scheduled to open in time for fall 2019 classes. CDA Architects is the designer, and final bids are being issued for a general contractor.
