Pritzker Imposes Statewide Restrictions as COVID Spreads “Quickly”

Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health said Tuesday that additional COVID-19 resurgence mitigations will take effect statewide at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 20. Among other provisions, the new restrictions impose curfews on bars and restaurants and prohibit hotel meeting spaces from being used.

“The simple fact is that COVID-19 is spreading so quickly and so widely, and our hospitals are beginning to experience real strain and at the current infection rate they will be overwhelmed,” said Pritzker. “So whenever possible, we need you to stay home.”

While this latest round of mitigations doesn’t include a stay-at-home order, one may become necessary if cases continue to rise, according to Pritzker’s office. Along with hotels and bars and restaurants, the new mitigations apply to retail, personal care services, health and fitness centers, manufacturing, meetings and social events, offices, organized group recreational activities, and indoor recreation and cultural activities.
