Prime Day Sets Amazon Record, Yet Again
It’s likely no surprise as Amazon continues to grow, but this year’s Amazon Prime Day, July 16, set another record for the e-commerce giant. Despite the servers crashing because of the immense amount of traffic, the extended hours and four additional markets translated to more business during the special shopping day.
Consumers purchased more than 100 million products, and when adjusted for the 36-hour period, the sales surpassed those of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and 2017’s Prime Day. According to Amazon, the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick, with the Alexa Voice Remote, were the best-selling items.
Perhaps the best news of all for the company was the surge in its Prime membership, which added more members to the subscription service than any previous day in its history. More than 100 million people are now Prime members, and customers from over 17 countries took part in the big shopping day.
