Pre-School Inside Affordable Housing Project Going Up in Dallas

A Jeff Bezos preschool academy will be situated within a new mixed-income housing community in East Dallas. The housing portion of the project will include 87 units, 71 of those will be at affordable prices for tenants who make between 30% and 60% of the area’s median household income.

Bezos Academy signed a 10-year lease agreement with Kiva East and the Bezos Foundation will pay to build out the school’s interior. The school will have two classrooms for 40 children in a year-round calendar. Saigebrook Development and O-SDA Industries are building the project.  “We are proud of the unique community that we are creating with Kiva East,” said Lisa Stephens of Saigebrook Development. “The development exemplifies the ideal high-quality mixed-income housing community.”

The development is supported by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development with $2.48 million. It also received a loan from the Dallas Housing Opportunity Fund, which invests in creating and maintaining affordable housing. The property opens in early 2024.
