Redevelopment Possibilities for Mission Viejo

Three concepts were presented this week as ways to revitalize Mission Viejo, CA’s aging Village Center. SWA Group shared findings of a nearly year-long community visioning process, which provides a framework for improving the city’s Core Area along Marguerite Parkway at La Paz Road.

The proposed models focused on connecting the Civic Center, Village Center and Oso Creek through a strategic redevelopment program. The designs included:

  • A park and trail system to rediscover the creek via village parklets, pedestrian bridges, landscape enhancements,
  • Creation of a Main Street environment that serves as a civic center and connects to creek; achieved via retail and restaurants, office and retail, cultural uses and programs, central parking, village green, central gathering spaces,
  • Addition of Next Gen Village, a walkable village environment with variety of gathering spaces, mix of uses including retail, office and entertainment, as well as a collection of neighborhoods.
