Portman Unveils Plans for 24-Story Residential Tower in Charlotte’s South End
Portman has closed into construction for 2161 Hawkins, a 24-story, 370-unit residential community in the South End of Charlotte, NC. The company’s plans include ground-floor retail and an activated plaza and greenspace that will ultimately take shape between 2161 Hawkins and The Line, Portman’s existing 318,000-square-foot Class-A office tower with ground-floor retail.
The ground floor of 2161 Hawkins will feature 18,700 square feet of restaurants and retail fronting Hawkins Street and the rail trail. The retail spaces will spill into the sidewalks and a public plaza, anchored by the popular Sycamore Brewery and local restauranter Dressler’s new concept Chapter 6, neighborhood market Savi Provisions and fitness concept GritBox Fitness.
The properties amenities will include concierge service, rooftop pool, co-working spaces, game room, climbing wall and indoor/outdoor fitness centers and more. The property integrates with both the Rail Trail and LYNX Light Rail, significantly enhancing pedestrian connectivity and walkability between Charlotte’s urban neighborhoods.
