Portman Eyes Redevelopment of Atlanta’s Amsterdam Walk for Mixed-Use

Atlanta-based developer Portman Holdings plans to rebuild Amsterdam Walk, an eclectic shopping center between Piedmont Park and Monroe Drive, as a mixed-income project with residential units, ground-level retail space and an office building.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that Portman envisions a mixed-use village forming along the Atlanta BeltLine, continuing its strategy to seize upon the demand to live and work by the pedestrian corridor.

“As it is today, [Amsterdam Walk is] not providing the kind of amenity that it could be,” Mike Greene, VP at Portman, told the Business Chronicle. “It could be the beating heart of activity and enjoyment for families in the neighborhoods and people on the BeltLine.”

Portman is still crafting a plan for the 12-acre site. Amsterdam Walk was originally built as warehouses and reopened as a retail hub in the 1990s. More than 20 businesses currently lease space there.
