Portland Stadium Scores LEED Gold Certification

Providence Park, home of the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns FC soccer teams, has been awarded LEED Gold certification by the USGBC. Additionally, the club has joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Sports for Climate Action Framework, in an effort to continue to prioritize the environment and sustainability.

Originally constructed in 1926, Providence Park was awarded LEED Silver certification in 2011, ahead of the club’s first season in MLS after the first renovation. In 2019, Providence Park increased its status to Gold after making additional improvements and changes supporting sustainability and the environment, following the $85 million transformation project with several notable achievements including:
– 100% renewable energy purchased through PGE’s Clean Wind program
– New LED sports lighting system and replacement of incandescent lightbulbs with LEDs in suites, offices and on the concourse level
– Increased recycling of electronic waste, recycling more than 3,500 pounds over the last year
