Portland Becomes #1 Data Center Market in the World
The hottest data center in the United States has jumped nine spots in its world ranking, as Portland, OR is now tied with Northern Virginia as the #1 data center market on the globe. A new report from Cushman & Wakefield, analyzing everything from fiber connectivity to market size to cloud availability, puts Portland at the top of the heap thanks to the rapid expansion of the Hillsboro submarket.
“Portland’s rise is indicative of a number of smaller markets growing to be of key interest for the data center industry,” said Cushman & Wakefield Research Manager Jacob Albers. “Going forward, expect other secondary markets to see substantial jumps in rankings.”
Northern Oregon benefits from favorable pricing, sustainability options, low environmental risk and more available land, and expect the trend to continue. Reports indicate that QTS is planning a campus on behalf of Meta that would be powered entirely by renewable energy via Portland General Electric.
