Port Selects Two Hotel Developers for Harbor Island Site
OliverMcMillan and Sunroad Enterprises were selected to develop two hotel properties on 57 acres of San Diego Unified Port District land and water at Harbor Island. The developers each submitted plans for the entire site, and the board elected to include both developers in the final development plan.
Previously, Sunroad received port approval for a 325-room hotel on nine acres, which the California Coastal Commission is deciding on next month.
OliverMcMillan originally proposed a $978-million project with 1,500 hotel rooms, retail and office space, canals and water taxi stations. The developer was directed to revise its plan to accommodate Sunroad’s portion, as well as coordinate infrastructure and design.
The site, on the eastern arm of Harbor Island, formerly held rental car lots. A new rental car facility opened on Pacific Highway in 2016.
