Port of L.A. Sees April Traffic Drop

Though labor issues and operational problems have improved at the Port of L.A., the amount of shipping containers going through the facility is still down from last year.

April saw a six percent drop from the same year-ago period, with about 663,000 containers hitting the port. Part of the reason for this is that in April 2014 importers brought in more goods than normal in anticipation of delays due to labor negotiations.

For the first four months of the year, volume is down 5.3 percent over the same time period in 2014. January and February were especially rough months because of labor issues and other factors.
