Port Isabel Yacht Club Hotel Sells to Local Buyer

The Martinez family has acquired the historic Port Isabel Yacht Club Hotel, which was built in 1926. The Martinezes acquired the 18,548-square-foot property from the city of Port Isabel, which effectively ended a four-year attempt to revitalize the hotel to its former glory. The Martinezes, who live in Port Isabel, are interested in restoring it, but have not yet determined specific plans.

The two-story Spanish Colonial Renaissance building, situated on 1.2 acres at 700 N. Yturria St., had many famous guests in its time, including President Warren G. Harding, Al Capone and Amelia Earhart. The city had attempted to renovate the 15-room property into offices and for educational uses. Other owners, over the years, have also tried their hand at re-purposing the space.
