Port Houston Re-Opens, Resumes Service

A week after shutting down in advance of Hurricane Harvey, Port Houston re-opened on Friday, Sept. 1. The Barbours Cut Terminal, Bayport Container Terminal and Turning Basin Terminal opened for truck operations from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. on that day.

“Although vessel movements remain restricted because of swift current in the channel from continued significant inflows, it is important to resume landside receipt and delivery of containers at our terminals in advance of commencement of vessel operations,” said Port Commission Chairman Janiece Longoria. According to the Port Houston website, there was no evidence of flooding on the terminals, or visible damage to containers, cranes or other terminal equipment.

In a related story, the U.S. Coast guard just began allowing small tankers to use Port Corpus Christi’s inner harbor.
