Popular Porto’s Opens First OC Bakery

How popular is Porto’s Bakery & Cafe in SoCal? It is easy to know, when actor and family friend Andy Garcia shows up at the grand opening of your Cuban family’s newest bakery.

More than 1,500 customers also lined up at Porto’s doors this week when the latest location opened in Buena Park, CA, at 7640 Beach Blvd. It is the first Orange County outlet and chain’s largest, at nearly 25,000 square feet.

The Los Angeles-based institution’s three bakeries sell more than two million cheese rolls and potato balls a month. There’s also a selection of cakes, French mousses, Italian sweets, international savories, and signature Cuban sandwiches.

The Porto’s first cake shop opened in the early 1970s in Los Angeles by Rosa Porto, after the family fled communist Cuba. In addition to its flagship store in Glendale, Porto’s has locations in Burbank and Downey, as well as a fifth planned for West Covina next year.
