PLG Buys Oakland-Based E-Commerce Fulfillment Leader
Port Logistics Group (PLG) acquired Oakland-based Whiplash Merchandising, Inc., a leading e-commerce fulfillment company. PLG gains a flexible, scalable technology platform that provides shopping cart integration and full-featured warehouse management system, as well as order management system capabilities. Whiplash also operates 13 locations.
The move complements PLG’s already robust logistics IT, and comes just over a year after it took an ownership interest in Whiplash. Since February 2018, PLG has fulfilled more than 1.5 million orders using the Whiplash platform, and attracted premier online brands, such as goop and Betabrand, which have benefitted from the expanded capabilities in pure-play e-commerce fulfillment.
PLG’s Greg Morello says, “The convergence of data, technology and e-commerce has changed the game for logistics and shipping providers. It’s no longer just about fulfilling orders. It’s about providing a seamless customer experience, from the second a consumer clicks ‘buy’ to the moment the product arrives in-hand.”
