Plaza Hotel $78M Restoration Approved

El Paso’s Historic Landmark Commission voted unanimously to approve plans for restoration of downtown’s Plaza Hotel. The approval means that owner Paul Foster can pull construction permits for the 19-story landmark at 106 Mills Ave. The $78 million renovation could begin as early as January 2018, with the end result a boutique hotel, with a minimum of 100 rooms, 6,500 square feet of restaurant and bar space, and 7,600 square feet of function space.

Architect Bill Helm said that the building’s electrical and plumbing systems will need to be updated, while window frames above the third floor will need to be replaced. Foster’s development team also plans to restore the three rooftop terraces at the penthouse level, as well as the hotel’s interior.
