Barron Development to reconfigure Plantation retail center

Plantation Retail Center Owners Eyeing Apartments

Barron Development and Hudson Capital want to transform The Plantation Marketplace by adding apartments and removing some of the retail space. The group wants to build 653 apartments and reduce the retail space to 60,000 square feet. The S. Florida Business Journal reports that city officials asked the developer to make revisions and come back for a second review.

The preliminary site plan shows new retail fronting Broward Boulevard, including a grocery store, a linear park and a central courtyard. The developer is working with Bizi Architecture & Planning.

Current tenants at Plantation Marketplace include Amped Fitness, Just Spoons Café, Food Fair Wholesale, and Plato’s Closet.

The nearly 23-acre site currently has a 238,136-square-foot retail center built in 1976. Barron and Hudson paid $45.7 million for the property in 2022. They say the current configuration is dated and want the redevelopment plan to reflect today’s building trends.
