Plans to Redevelop Rancho San Pedro Public Housing Complex Emerge
Greenwich, CT-based The Richman Group, National CORE, and Century Housing, the development team selected by the City of Los Angeles in 2018 to redevelop an aging public housing complex in San Pedro, unveiled plans for One San Pedro. The 21-acre site is located across from the Port of L.A.’s cruise ship terminals at the west end of the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the Barton Hill neighborhood.
The design by SVA Architects and City Fabrick envisions a one-for-one replacement of Rancho San Pedro’s existing 478 homes, by incorporating mixed-income rental units with for-sale homes. The proposed project encompasses between 1,264 and 1,390 new homes, five acres of open space for new parks and pedestrian paseos, 90,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and amenities, as well as new transportation facilities.
One San Pedro is currently working its way through the entitlement process, which is expected to continue through 2022. Construction is slated to span 11 phases between 2023 and 2039.
