Plans Laid Out for $17M Hotel Renovation

D.J. Realty Investments has laid out plans to turn the 90-year-old, vacant Barfield Building in Amarillo, TX into a downtown hotel. The developer has hired Architexas for the design, and received preliminary approval for historic tax credits to help pay for the $17 million development. Though the National Park Service (NPS) verified the building’s historic significance, it won’t issue final approval on the tax credits until the project is complete.

The Barfield Building, ,at 600 S. Polk St., delivered in 1927, and has been empty since the early 1990s. Since the early 2000s, the property has been through numerous ownerships and plans. DJ Realty Investments ended up with the property in May 2015. The current plan involves converting the building into a boutique hotel, with 110 rooms, along with a fitness center, full-service bar and pool.
