Austin's 80-story Wilson Tower project scaled back in half

Plans for Austin’s 80-Story Tower Cut in Half

It was supposed to be the State of Texas’s tallest building. Wilson Capital’s plans for Wilson Tower called for 80 stories. The company still plans to build its apartment tower, but a scaled back version; 45 stories. The Austin Business Journal says the developer cited the challenging economy, and a less than enthusiastic reception from Austin’s Design Commission for its decision to reduce the size.

The reduction in height means it will no longer be the states tallest building, and the building will offer 350 apartments rather than the 450 originally planned.

Wilson Capital is still targeting a 2023 groundbreaking for Wilson Tower. It will juggle that project with smaller ones in the area. Wilson recently announced that it has 1,894 units under construction across the Austin metro with plans to start 885 more by the end of the year on sites the firm owns.
