Planned Cuts Shake NYCHA
President Donald Trump’s budget plans will put the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) back in the poorhouse, according to NYCHA officials who recently briefed City politicians.
If Trump’s budget plan goes through, a $28 million budget surplus NYCHA expected for this year will turn into a $153 million budget gap, according to NYCHA Chairwoman Shola Olatoye.
NYCHA seemed to be doing so well. The Authority had just taken on new projects, including financing of several thousand public housing apartments through the federal Rental Assistance Demonstration program.
