Pilot Flying J’s $1 Billion Investment Plan
Anyone traveling on interstate throughout the United States has either seen, or stopped by, a Pilot or Flying J travel center. The owner of these centers, Pilot Flying J of Knoxville, TN, announced it would spend $1 billion by 2025 to overhaul more than 400 of its properties and open 15 new ones. This marks the company’s largest investment in store modernization to date.
Called “New Horizons,” the renovation program was developed based on feedback from customers and professional drivers as to how Pilot Flying J could better serve them. This plan will boost modernization efforts including:
- Upgrading and expanding showers, restrooms and driver lounges
- Updating store interior and exteriors, including the addition of more seating and dining areas
- Renovating and improving employee workspaces and break rooms
- Redesigning store layouts and upgrading kitchen equipment
- Adding electronic vehicle charging stations and developing strategies to support low- and zero-emission vehicles
The New Horizons project will be completed in several phases. The first phase is currently underway, with more than 50 Pilot and Flying J travel centers slated for renovation in 2022.
The company will also donate a total of $500,000 to the school districts and communities in which it operates.
Pilot Flying J recently announced it was ramping up hiring at several travel centers across the southeast including Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
