Pierce County to Fund Five Affordable Housing Projects Across the Region

Pierce County Human Services is investing $11.4 million to fund five affordable housing projects across the region, adding and preserving 220 affordable homes.

The new funding pushes the total supported by the Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Act to 1,545 affordable homes built or preserved since the County began collecting the one-tenth of 1% local sales tax in mid 2023.

“These new affordable housing units will provide stability for hundreds of people across Pierce County,” Pierce County Executive Ryan Mello said. “The Maureen Howard Affordable Housing Act continues to make a real difference for our most vulnerable residents and working families.” The new projects target a wide range of housing needs in both urban and suburban areas, including new construction and rehabilitation projects.

Pierce County is also improving access to housing by approving new cottage housing regulations that create a pathway for smaller, more affordable homes and securing $2.7 million in state funding to cover essential infrastructure.
