Phoenix PD to be razed, city putting out bids for redevelop

Phoenix to Accept Proposals for Soon-Vacant Downtown Parcel

The city of Phoenix police headquarters is moving a few blocks away into the Wells Fargo building at 100 W. Washington St. In 2021, the city paid $46.5 million for the Wells Fargo building, which is 500,000 square feet and requires extensive renovations, over $180 million worth. The police department plans to move in sometime next year.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports that concurrent with the old building becoming vacant, the city will issue a request for proposals to redevelop Seventh and Washington Streets downtown; the location of the current Phoenix PD. The town’s Community and Economic Development Office is heading up the process.

The current, aging police headquarters will be demolished to make way for the new development. The city is contemplating a mixed-use project that would include apartments and ground-floor retail and restaurant space. Affordable and workforce housing units would also be included in the development.
